Tynecastle High School Fundraiser

Pupils at Tynecastle High School in Edinburgh recently raised £1400 for education in Malawi. This was their response to the nationwide Scotland-Malawi Partnership initiative, that aims to forge closer links between the two countries. The Trustees of the Soko Fund were delighted to learn that Tynecastle students have chosen to donate the money to Soko Scholarships, and expressed their thanks and appreciation both for the donation and for the important signal it sends in support of the work of the Soko Fund. £1400 goes a long way toward two years of university education for a Malawian woman student, making a reality of what would otherwise be an impossible dream.
Tynecastle High School opened in 1912 on the site of what is now Heart of Midlothian Football Club. Its present building, next to Hearts, was completed in 2010. Former pupils of Tynecastle include the actor Ian Richardson, who played Francis Urquhart in the original BBC adaption of House of Cards, and the First World War poet Wilfred Owen taught there for a short period.
Tynecastle’s donation follows a similar donation to the Soko Fund from Fife College in 2015.
